Maintaining the Change

Steps Four - Seven

  • Step Four

In this phase, each person is assigned a counselor much like the 211 services offer at the various shelters. The difference is our counselors work with the family and individual to create a financial and sustained housing plan which leads to permanent home ownership. The counselor and veteran identify roadblocks to home ownership and devise a path to overcome those areas. Our partner Ten Fold will build homes that are reasonable priced and affordable for program participants. The homes will include condominium, duplex, semi-detached, and single family home options. The families would be able to choose from a number of locations within the city limits. It is anticipated that an individual veteran with family may remain in this phase from 1-3 years.

  • Step Five

Should the veteran and family decide that they would prefer a housing option outside of the Ten Fold development plan or wish to live in a specific community, the veteran, counselor and program realtor work together to identify housing for the client. This will include improving credit worthiness, ensuring income level, and appropriate and safe play environment for children. Information will be provided on local school for the areas. Additionally, transportation requirements will be address at this phase.

  • Step Six

Permanent housing that the veterans income level can sustained is identified. The counselor and veteran now consider what items and things are required for a healthy household. Once identified the counselor will work to ensure these items are properly addressed so veteran can have the greatest opportunity for success. The counseling will continue working with the family even after the veteran has moved into their home

  • Step Seven

After completing Step Six the veteran and family graduate our program. The family is assigned a maintenance counselor that will continue to be a resource for the family. The counselor makes themselves available for one year after program graduation. The counselor ‘s role is to assist in smoothing out issues that may place the graduate at risk for housing instability.
